Hey, so I was just wondering why nobody warned me about the absolute FULL TIME JOB that raising a puppy is??? Not ONE warning from my Substack family!!! Guys, the honesty here is a two way street!! :D Puppy training is absolutely not for the faint of heart — but all jokes aside, he is such a little love and though this phase has been challenging, we are so happy to have him in our family. I did hire a dog walker and a trainer this week, and ordered this play pen so we can give him a little more freedom during the day as opposed to putting him in his crate (got a lot of questions about this on IG, and I think it’s pretty stunning). So, we’re getting into a rhythm — but not without many jail breaks, destroyed slippers and painful bite marks.

Anyways, as I’m now more than 16 weeks preg and starting to feel fully like myself again, I’m happy to report that I’ve been back in the kitchen. Nothing lights me up (and makes me feel my best) like a home cooked meal. I get so many questions about what I’m eating, and my Easy, Healthy Meals I Make On Repeat post got so much traction that I thought I would start incorporating more content like this on here.

I’m not someone who always genuinely enjoyed eating healthy meals, at some points in my life there was a punishing, restrictive tone to “health” — and if you want more on my relationship with food and how I got to the place I am today, here’s a full post on that. But I say this because, at least for me, learning to cook at home (I’m not talking difficult-to-make-meals), incorporate delicious ingredients, and reaping the benefits of a healthy, well-nourished body has been really transformative for me. I now look at my time in the kitchen as my “me” time. I throw on a podcast or an audio book (just listened to Strangers by Belle Burden & loved, and started Famesick by Lena Dunham yesterday), zone out and create a beautiful, yet simple meal for Clayton and I. I truly find this to be one of the most underrated forms of self care.
