When The Gratitude List, Meditation & Green Juices Aren't Making You "Well"
What's more inflammatory than gluten and dairy? Fear.
Hi from Amagansett my friends! I’m out here this week with Clayton, my mom, sister and niece having some cozy time before the baby comes. I turned 34 last week, just entered my third trimester, and baby is currently the size of a coconut! I would say my appetite has increased a bit recently, and I definitely get tired more easily throughout the day, but other than that I feel really lucky to feel quite… normal ?! at this point.
This week, I wanted to touch on the side of wellness that’s been… frankly, giving me the ick. It’s the side that allowed me stay sick under the guide of “healing” for many years. The part that can feel incredibly overwhelming and can lead to perfectionism disguised in a new, sneaky format. I obviously love wellness, it’s literally in my brand’s name, but my approach to it now is VERY different than it was 5 years ago, and I think it’s important we talk about it. I felt a strong pull to write about this because I have a sneaking suspicion that I’m not alone in this. I hear from so many people on here, the streets of NYC, in the DM, literally everywhere — that despite doing all the things, they are still in an uphill battle mentally or physically. And, from a place of DEEP empathy and understanding, I’m here to tell you that MORE IS NOT ALWAYS MORE.
There was a point in time where I was, on paper, doing everything “right” from a health and wellness perspective. I was drinking my morning celery juice, meditating, avoiding a laundry list of foods that a blood test had shown were causing “inflammation” (not even just gluten, dairy, refined sugar, etc. — but also random things like avocado, carrots, chicken and garlic). I was moving my body every day. I was forcing (key word) myself to write a morning gratitude lis… and yet, despite doing the absolute most, I was the least well I had ever been.
